I just finished watching ‘The Intern’ on OTT today, and wow, what a genuinely good time it gave me! I absolutely love films that manage to blend substance with lightheartedness, and this one hit all the right notes. It’s truly fun and mature at the same time, a rare and delightful combination.

The premise itself hooked me: an old man, 70 years young, with such an incredible will to live with enthusiasm and to keep doing something even after retirement. It’s inspiring! His workaholic nature, coupled with that understandable lonely feeling after losing his wife, drives this senior citizen to take on an intern’s job at a modern, internet-driven company run by young people with their very contemporary approaches and thinking. You can clearly see how the vigor of youth drives things fast, but the touch of maturity always acts like a vital backbone, and this story illustrates that beautifully.

And then there’s Robert De Niro. He’s not a person who needs an introduction; his acting has always been phenomenal, and here in this film, his very presence creates such an impact.

Robert De Niro’s performance in “The Intern” is a charming and gentle reminder that wisdom and experience are not a burden, but a resource. The film wisely avoids the slapstick of a fish-out-of-water story, instead finding its humor and heart in the subtle clash of generations. It’s a feel-good film that doesn’t feel manufactured, but rather earned through its genuine respect for both its characters. The movie’s greatest strength is its wit, which is as understated as its humor and as sharp as its observations about the modern workplace. It’s a delightful, brief escape that leaves you with a warm feeling and the quiet knowledge that sometimes, the best mentorship comes from the most unexpected places.

Watching the intern gradually become a mentor, both professionally and even more so in personal life, is an amazing role reversal to witness. The dynamic presence of both generations in this film is definitely something that attracts a large audience, and it’s clear it has already done so since its release.

I give this film my full recommendations!
